Dilling, April 13 (Darfur24)

Artillery shelling struck the city of Dilling in South Kordofan for the second consecutive day on Sunday, injuring civilians and setting homes ablaze after attacks targeted the market and residential areas.

Eyewitnesses said the bombardment, attributed to the SPLM-N, hit the Dilling market earlier in the day, leaving at least four civilians injured with varying degrees of wounds.

Ma’azin Baraka told Darfur24 that the shelling also caused fires in several houses, compounding the damage in residential neighborhoods.

The latest attack follows a similar strike on Saturday that targeted the market, killing four people and injuring another, according to local sources.

Medical workers say the city’s already fragile health system is struggling to cope with the casualties. A nurse at Dilling Hospital reported severe shortages of medicines and essential medical supplies, alongside soaring drug prices in local pharmacies.

She added that health services are now limited to Al-Toumat Specialized Hospital and the Military Medical Hospital, where only five doctors are currently working—four general practitioners and one orthopedic specialist.

Dilling Teaching Hospital has remained out of service since March after being hit by drone strikes that killed and injured patients, further weakening the city’s healthcare capacity.

The city has witnessed repeated attacks in recent weeks amid escalating fighting involving the Sudanese army, the Rapid Support Forces, and the SPLM-North, raising concerns over the growing toll on civilians and critical infrastructure.
