Nyala, March 10 (Darfur24)
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are continuing to detain at least four women in the city of Nyala, South Darfur State, for more than two weeks without formal charges, according to local sources and relatives of the detainees.
Sources told Darfur24 that the forces arrested human rights activist Magda Hassan Ali and Sarah Adam from their homes more than two weeks ago, without explaining the reasons for the arrests.
They added that two women working in the medical corps were also detained from their homes in the Khartoum Balil neighborhood of Nyala, with no clear charges announced against them so far.
A human rights activist in Nyala, who requested anonymity for security reasons, told Darfur24 that Magda and Sarah were detained after participating in a workshop on women’s rights held last February.
The activist said the women’s place of detention remains unknown, noting that authorities have refused to allow their relatives to visit them or obtain information about their condition.
Yasser Ali, a relative of the detained activist Sarah Adam, said a military force in civilian clothes arrested her from her home about two weeks ago without providing any clear justification.
He added that the family attempted to visit her at the Korea prison detention center in Nyala. Still, authorities prevented them from doing so and informed them that she was under investigation in several cases.
According to families of detainees, the RSF intelligence had previously arrested several women activists after they participated in the same workshop on women’s rights. The women were initially held at the guard post of the Popular Market in Nyala before being transferred to the Korea prison and later moved to an unknown location.
Those arrested reportedly include broadcaster Ishraqah Abdel Rahman, Dr. Manal Mustafa Al-Sanousi, director of the Al-Manhal Center for Training and Capacity Building, radio broadcaster Zahraa Muhammad Al-Hassan, and Mawaheb Ibrahim, while the arrest of activist Azhar Abdel Moneim Hamed has not yet been confirmed.
