Sirba , March 1 Darfur24) Chief Justice in West Darfur State has decided to suspend court operations, citing what sources described as an overlap of jurisdictions with other judicial bodies.

The head of the judiciary and Court of Appeal judge, Salah al-Din al-Nur, stated in a post seen by Darfur24 that he issued a decision to suspend operations effective Thursday, February 26, until further notice.

Sources told Darfur24 on Sunday that there were disagreements regarding overlapping jurisdictions between the judiciary and the Emergency Court, which has been handling judicial matters since August 2023. This prompted the head of the judiciary to suspend court operations.

The sources explained that the judiciary believes the Emergency Court has usurped its powers, leading to a conflict of duties and procedures.

West Darfur State has been under control of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since the Sudanese army and its allied forces withdrew from the area in 2023.
