Murtal , February 27(Darfur24) Hundreds of Sudanese army officers and soldiers, stranded in areas east of Jebel Marra, complained that their financial entitlements, including their monthly salaries, have been suspended since last October, exacerbating their already dire living conditions.
Over the past few months, areas in Jebel Marra controlled by the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) led by Abdul Wahid Mohamed Nour have received hundreds of army )officers and soldiers, along with some supporting forces, after they fled El Fasher following the Rapid Support Forces’ takeover of the 6th Infantry Division headquarters last October.
Several officers and soldiers told Darfur24 that their salaries have been suspended since they left El Fasher. They said that they were relying on limited humanitarian aid provided by some organizations working in the humanitarian field, similar to the displaced people who fled El Fasher to displacement camps in Tawila and other areas in eastern Jebel Marra.
They emphasized that the continued suspension of salaries has exacerbated the suffering of their families, given the difficult economic conditions resulting from the ongoing military conflict in the country since April 2023.
The soldiers and officers appealed to the Sudanese army command for urgent intervention to address their situation and disburse their overdue salaries.
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF )seized control of El Fasher on October 26, while the Sudanese army and its allied forces withdrew to various locations, with hundreds of its personnel reaching areas controlled by the Abdul Wahid Nour Movement.
