Al-Junaynah, February 18 (Darfur24)
Sudanese civil and political forces have submitted a joint memorandum to the leadership of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the leadership of the Rapid Support Forces, calling for an immediate and comprehensive humanitarian truce to begin with the start of Ramadan, alongside the release of civilians detained by both sides and urgent arrangements for a prisoner exchange under international supervision.
In a statement seen by Darfur24, the signatory forces said the initiative comes amid a war that has continued for more than a thousand days, causing massive human and material losses and an unprecedented deterioration in humanitarian conditions. They stressed that civilians — particularly women, children, and the elderly — have borne the brunt of the conflict.
The memorandum calls for a cessation of hostilities during the truce period, protection of civilians, residential areas, and vital facilities, and the opening of safe and sustainable corridors to allow the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid. It also urges enabling national and international organizations to carry out their work fully and effectively.
The signatories emphasized the need for the immediate and unconditional release of all detained civilians, without linking the step to political or military considerations, and for establishing clear arrangements for prisoner exchanges in line with international humanitarian law and recognized standards.
They further called for the creation of clear implementation and monitoring mechanisms to ensure strict adherence to the truce and prevent its exploitation for military purposes.
