Dilling, February 16 (Darfur24)
Two primary schools in Dilling, South Kordofan State, sustained heavy damage after an aerial bombardment by drones on Saturday morning, according to local sources, raising concerns about further disruption to education in the conflict-affected city.
Sources told Darfur24 that the attack occurred around 9:00 a.m., when drones believed to be linked to the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North flew over the city and struck multiple locations. In addition to the two schools, the bombardment reportedly targeted military sites, including the headquarters of the 54th Brigade and the mountain known locally as “Al-Dash” in the city center.
Witnesses said the strikes caused extensive destruction inside the schools, partially collapsing classrooms and destroying offices and furniture. The damage threatens to suspend classes and worsen an already fragile education situation.
Residents reported that the bombardment lasted for hours, spreading fear among civilians, particularly children and women. Families sheltered inside their homes as anxiety spread through nearby neighborhoods. No civilian casualties were reported.
The affected schools are located near Ali Al-Karrar School and the Basic Education Office in eastern Dilling, close to the offices of the General Security and Intelligence Service.
Earlier this month, on February 11, a drone attack struck Ali Al-Karrar School and the Primary Education Office in the northern part of the city, causing significant structural damage.
An official spokesperson for the Rapid Support Forces denied any involvement in that earlier strike.
