Tine, January 14 (Darfur24)
A Sudanese refugee girl was found dead inside her family’s home in the Chadian border city of Tine on Tuesday, in an incident that has shocked the local community.
A relative told Darfur24 that the girl, identified by the initials (M.A.K.), was discovered shortly after her mother left the house.
The family had been displaced from Nyala in South Darfur following the outbreak of fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in April 2023. They initially moved to Al-Tina on the Sudanese side of the border before seeking refuge in Chad, where they have lived since.
The source said the incident sparked grief and anger among residents. Chadian authorities have opened an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the death. No further details were provided pending completion of police inquiries and medical reports.
Chad currently hosts more than one million Sudanese refugees who have fled the conflict, most of whom live in camps including Touloum and Ardimi in the country’s northeast.
