Nyala, January 12 (Darfur24)

The South Darfur State Water Authority announced on Sunday the launch of three new solar-powered water stations in the localities of Damso, Katila and Talas, in a move aimed at improving access to clean water across the state.

In a press statement, the authority said the stations were established as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen water services in areas suffering from chronic shortages.

Nyala city and several surrounding localities face persistent water scarcity, particularly during the summer season, as fluctuating fuel prices and supply disruptions increase the cost of operating diesel-powered pumps and deepen residents’ hardship.

The authority noted that the shift toward solar-powered systems is intended to provide a more sustainable and reliable water supply.

It added that emergency response teams and health centers in Nyala have already introduced solar energy into several wells operated by the state water authority to supply Nyala Teaching Hospital and neighborhoods in the city center.
