Jebel Marra, January 08 (Darfur24)

Displaced families who fled El Fasher to the town of Beli Sereif in East Jebel locality are facing acute humanitarian needs, as aid has failed to reach them following repeated waves of displacement.

Community activist Ahmed Zein told Darfur24 that approximately 3,000 displaced people from the areas of Abu Zariqa, Tabit, and Shangil Tobaya arrived in Beli Sereif last December after having moved multiple times in search of safety.

He explained that the families had initially fled El Fasher after the Rapid Support Forces took control of the city, relocating to nearby areas. However, worsening security conditions and the absence of humanitarian assistance forced them to move again to Beli Sereif, which they consider relatively safer while awaiting aid.

Zein said residents and volunteers have opened several temporary shelters to accommodate the displaced and are coordinating with humanitarian organizations to assist.

Residents told Darfur24 that the number of displaced people in Beli Sereif far exceeds the town’s capacity, urging humanitarian organizations to intervene urgently to prevent further deterioration of living conditions.

The Jebel Marra region has received thousands of displaced families fleeing ongoing fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces across various parts of Darfur.
