A measles vaccination campaign is set to begin on Wednesday in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur State, under the supervision of the state Ministry of Health and with support from UNICEF.
The campaign aims to vaccinate 429,316 children across Nyala North locality, Nyala Municipality, and East Jebel locality.
According to the latest report from the General Directorate of Emergencies at the Ministry of Health, 35 new measles cases were recorded among children in Nyala. The report said that 26 patients were admitted to the isolation center at Nyala Teaching Hospital, while nine others were received by the Italian Emergency Hospital.
The Emergency Department reported that the total number of measles cases recorded during 2025 reached 2,209, including 19 deaths.
The report noted that most cases and deaths were concentrated in Nyala North locality, Nyala Municipality and East Jebel locality, adding that the measles outbreak has spread to 12 of the 21 localities in South Darfur State.
