Khartoum. January 03 (Darfur24)
The Minister of State at Sudan’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Welfare, Salma Ishaq, announced that 1,844 cases of sexual violence have been officially recorded across the country, in addition to cases documented by the Attorney General related to El Fasher.
Speaking to Darfur24, Ishaq said the Attorney General had recorded more than 1,300 cases of sexual violence involving survivors who arrived in Al-Dabba, Northern State, after fleeing El Fasher. The displacement followed the Rapid Support Forces’ takeover of the city in late October.
She explained that data on violence against women in Sudan is being continuously updated in coordination with the Ministry of Health, stressing that the actual number of cases now exceeds 2,500 following the events in El Fasher.
Ishaq also revealed plans to integrate essential healthcare services for survivors of sexual violence into a single service point. The initiative is set to begin in January in Al-Jazirah State and will include long-term rehabilitation programs aimed at reducing stigma and supporting survivors’ recovery.
She noted that a framework document on the prevention of sexual violence was signed last April with the Office of the United Nations Secretary-General.
“We are trying to restore normal life for women,” Ishaq said. “This requires adequate training, as well as economic and social security.”
