Kalogi, December 8 (Darfur24)

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssef, condemned on Sunday the drone attack on a kindergarten and hospital in Kalogi, South Kordofan, which left 114 people dead last Thursday.

The victims included children and women, while 71 others were wounded, according to Essam El-Din El-Nanno, the executive director of Kalogi locality.

In a statement obtained by Darfur24, Youssef described the deliberate targeting of children, medical personnel, and civilians attempting to rescue the wounded as a flagrant violation of international humanitarian and human rights law.

He expressed deep concern over the recurrence and escalation of atrocities against civilians and called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire to end the bloodshed. Youssef emphasized the urgent need to protect children, women, and the elderly and to allow unhindered humanitarian access to deliver life-saving assistance to affected communities.

“The perpetrators of these heinous acts must be held accountable,” he added, calling for independent investigations to ensure justice.

The European Union Commissioner for Crisis Management, Haja Habib, also condemned the attack, stating that it constitutes a clear war crime. She stressed that targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure is strictly prohibited under international humanitarian law and called on all parties to respect their legal obligations.

Similarly, the Civil Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces “Sumud” denounced the attack, describing it as brutal and unlawful, directly targeting protected places such as a childcare center and a hospital. The group reiterated that such acts violate the Geneva Conventions and urged Sudanese society to unite against the ongoing criminal war.

“The parties to this conflict have committed every imaginable atrocity,” the statement said, calling on the wider Sudanese population to exert pressure to halt the violence and isolate the war.
