Port Sudan, December 2 (Darfur24)
The head of the Sovereignty Council and commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, reaffirmed on Monday his rejection of any peace initiative that does not include the dismantling and disarmament of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The Sudanese army and the RSF have been locked in continuous fighting since April 15, 2023.
Speaking at a memorial ceremony for members of the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Minni Arko Minawi, Al-Burhan said he had informed international envoys that any proposal or peace initiative that excludes the dissolution and disarmament of the RSF is “completely unacceptable.”
He added that options for ending the war have become increasingly limited due to the scale of bloodshed and suffering across the country, particularly in Darfur and El Fasher.
Al-Burhan also vowed to take revenge on what he described as “criminals, murderers, and hateful people who committed all kinds of crimes.”
He further proposed restoring Sudan’s old national flag and stressed the need to rebuild the Sudanese state from the ground up on what he called “sound foundations.”
