Darfur, December 1 (Darfur24)
Two people were killed and another injured in separate armed incidents in North and South Darfur on Sunday, amid a continued rise in violence and lawlessness across the region.
In the border town of Al-Tina, North Darfur, sources told Darfur24 that armed clashes erupted between a local militia and outlaws who had stolen livestock from the outskirts of the town last Thursday.
A military source said a tribal group pursued the perpetrators who had taken 12 head of cattle, leading to a confrontation about 10 kilometers from Al-Tina. The clashes resulted in the death of one person and the injury of a riot police officer. The stolen livestock was recovered, while the thieves escaped to an unknown location.
The incident triggered heightened security tensions in Al-Tina and nearby villages. Authorities have formed an investigative committee to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, after members of the emergency response team managed to recognize some of them.
Meanwhile, in South Darfur, unknown armed men riding motorcycles shot dead a citizen, Musa Othman, while he was traveling from Markandi to Kabm, west of Nyala.
Sources said the attackers intercepted him east of Damba, about 140 kilometers from Nyala, and demanded a large sum of money he was carrying. When he refused, they shot him immediately and fled with the cash.
Residents from Markandi and Kabm headed to the scene in an attempt to track down the assailants.
Local leaders report a sharp increase in armed robbery across Darfur, where daily attacks claim lives, leave others injured, and frequently escalate into tribal conflicts amid persistent insecurity and impunity.
