Beida, October 25 (Darfur24)

A farmer was killed in the Konga area of Beida locality, West Darfur State, after being attacked by an armed group while working on his farm near the Sudanese–Chadian border, according to local sources.

Sources told Darfur24 that the farmer was shot dead after refusing to hand over his mobile phone to an armed group that stormed his residence on the farm in an apparent looting attempt.

The victim had reportedly fled the war in Sudan and was living with his family in the Arkoum refugee camp in eastern Chad. He frequently returned to his village in Sudan to tend to his farmland during the agricultural season.

This incident underscores the dangers faced by farmers who return to their border communities amid the fragile security situation in western Sudan.
