El Fasher, October 4 (Darfur24)
The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate has announced the death of journalist Al-Nour Suleiman Al-Nour, who died on Saturday from injuries sustained when Rapid Support Forces (RSF) shelled his home in El Fasher, North Darfur.
Journalists in El Fasher continue to live and work under extremely harsh conditions, facing the threat of murder, hunger, and constant bombardment, as well as internet and electricity blackouts. Many have also been subjected to arrests, torture, and sexual violence.
In a statement obtained by Darfur24, the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate paid tribute to Al-Nour Suleiman, describing him as a respected colleague and a man of good character.
Al-Nour previously worked as a correspondent for Al Salam Radio in Al Malha locality before moving to El Fasher. He later became an editor and presenter for Al Fasher Radio and most recently served as the Media Director at the Governor’s Office.
The syndicate expressed deep sorrow over his death and extended condolences to his family, colleagues, and the journalistic community.
Al-Nour’s death followed intense RSF shelling on Friday, which targeted Abu Qurun Market, parts of the Abu Shouk neighborhood, three shelters in the First Class neighborhood, and the Saudi Hospital, killing 17 civilians and injuring more than 30 others.
Prolonged fighting in El Fasher has crippled essential infrastructure, destroying most water sources and shutting down the vast majority of health facilities. Only a handful remain partially operational. The RSF’s siege, imposed since April last year, aims to wrest control of the Sudanese army’s final military stronghold in Darfur.
