The Hague, September 15 (Darfur24)
Trial Chamber I of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has scheduled October 6, 2025, for the delivery of its judgment in the case of The Prosecutor v. Ali Muhammad Ali Abd-Al-Rahman (Ali Kushayb).
In a statement seen by Darfur24, the court stated that the judgment, whether a conviction or acquittal, will be read publicly in Courtroom One and streamed live on the ICC website.
The court noted that, in line with Article 74 of the Rome Statute, Kushayb will only be convicted if the charges are proven beyond a reasonable doubt; otherwise, the accused will be acquitted. It added that Kushayb, like all accused before the ICC, is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
After the ruling, both parties have the right to appeal to the ICC Appeals Chamber.
Kushayb surrendered to Central African Republic authorities in 2020 and was transferred to The Hague, where his trial started on June 15 of that year. He faces 31 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity, allegedly committed between August 2003 and April 2004 in Darfur.
In July 2021, Pre-Trial Chamber II confirmed all charges against him, paving the way for trial.
