El Fasher, September 12 (Darfur24)

At least seven people were killed and more than ten others injured on Thursday as fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) flared up again in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, eyewitnesses told Darfur24.

Residents reported that they heard heavy artillery shelling that struck residential neighborhoods in the northeastern part of the city.

In Nasr and Abu Shouk neighborhoods, residents said RSF shelling lasted from 8:00 a.m. until the afternoon, killing at least seven people and wounding more than ten.

Medical staff at the Saudi Hospital confirmed to Darfur24 that they received multiple casualties, including severe injuries.

Military sources said the RSF briefly re-entered the Al-Nusraat and Al-Qubba neighborhoods before being expelled by army forces. Many residents fled the area following the renewed fighting toward the western sector of El Fasher in search of safety.

Since May 10, the RSF has been carrying out repeated attacks on El Fasher in an attempt to seize the Sudanese army’s last stronghold in Darfur.
