Nairobi, September 11 (Darfur24)
The UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy, Ramtane Lamamra, on Thursday held talks in Nairobi with the Civil Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces (Sumud), led by former Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, to discuss ways of ending the war in Sudan.
Lamamra met with the Sumud delegation headed by Secretary-General Sadiq Al-Mahdi, spokesperson Dr. Bakri Al-Jak, Leadership Council member Dr. Hiba Al-Makki, and Youth Sector head Abu Al-Qasim Fadl Al-Sayed.
In a statement, Al-Jak said the delegation outlined its vision on the Sudanese war and its consequences, stressing the threat it poses to regional security and the role of the United Nations in helping stop the conflict. He emphasized the urgent need to protect civilians, deliver humanitarian aid, and launch a comprehensive political process to build peace and stability.
Al-Jak underscored that there is no military solution to Sudan’s crisis and urged regional and international actors to push the warring parties toward negotiations without conditions, while ensuring humanitarian access and civilian protection.
The delegation also warned against granting legitimacy to either side in the conflict, saying such recognition fuels the continuation of war. Instead, they called for unified international mediation based on a three-track approach: humanitarian action and protection of civilians, practical ceasefire arrangements, and the start of a political process.
