Nyala, May 3(Darfur 24)
Rapid Support Forces( RSF) sources said on Saturday that their forces conducted a large-scale arrest campaign following the attack on Nyala Airport in South Darfur.
In a statement to Darfur 24, they indicated that the arrests included retired army and police personnel, as well as some cadres of the dissolved National Congress Party.
The sources explained that the campaign followed a drone attack targeted sites inside Nyala Airport.
Eyewitnesses confirmed to Darfur 24 that they heard violent explosions in the early hours of Saturday morning, east of the city.
A resident of neighborhoods near Nyala Airport, said they heard three powerful explosions that shook the city.
Flames were seen rising into the sky following the explosions, heading toward Nyala Airport, located approximately five kilometers east of the city.
RSF have resumed operations at Nyala Airport. Darfur 24 verified—in an investigation published on March 27—that 130 aircraft landed at Nyala Airport between September 21, 2024, and March 14, 2025. Eyewitnesses, former employees, and military sources said these were cargo planes.
The exact equipment carried by the planes that periodically land at Nyala Airport remains shrouded in mystery, with various sources claiming they carry weapons and modern drones for the RSF.
