El Fasher, April 22(Darfur 24)

At least 60 civilians were killed and dozens injured in ongoing artillery shelling by Rapid Support Forces(RSF) on El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State.

Eyewitnesses told Darfur 24 that the RSF continued their artillery shelling of residential neighborhoods in El Fasher on Sunday and Monday, killing and wounding dozens of civilians, in addition to destroying several water sources around the Abu Shouk camp for internally displaced persons.

The eyewitnesses added that RSF resumed their indiscriminate heavy and light artillery attacks on residential neighborhoods on Sunday and Monday, killing at least 60 civilians, including seven women, in the Abu Shouk neighborhood in Al-Hilla in the western sector.

Mahmoud Yahya Ibrahim, a resident of the Al-Qubba neighborhood, told Darfur 24 that the artillery shelling on Monday targeted several water sources in Wadi Haloof, east of Naivasha camp, destroying water source systems.

In this context, medical sources confirmed to Darfur 24 that the military hospital is experiencing an unprecedented overcrowding of wounded patients as a result of the ongoing artillery shelling by RSF on El Fasher since the beginning of this week, noting the deaths of a number of the wounded.

For its part, the Sudanese Army’s 6th Infantry Division announced the killing of approximately 47 civilians and the wounding of dozens more as a result of the artillery shelling on El Fasher on Monday.

The division wrote on its Facebook page that the RSF continue to systematically target civilians, using approximately 250 120mm artillery shells.

Medical sources have warned of the collapse of the health sector in El Fasher due to shortages of medicines and medical supplies, a shortage of medical personnel, and the suspension of airdrops of medicines, amid the ongoing siege of the city by RSF for more than 10 months.
